Time for an update

Dear 'Taking Flight' contributors, it is time for an update from the flight deck...

First of all I'm soo grateful for all your generous donations coming in! We have reached 71% of our fundraising goal! Thank you so much!

The past few days we had sweltering temperatures around 100 degrees in the Bay Area. Working and welding in a metal shed (oven) without air condition was quite exhausting to say the least, we were melting, but we kept going to continue our progress. :) Good conditioning for what's to come on playa. ;)

After contemplating many options, our lighting plan has been finalized, and we are ready to order all the components as we have the funds we need for it covered thanks to all of you!

Even though we are making such great progress with over 50 contributions at this point, we still need to keep pushing forward to reach our full fundraising goal to cover transport and additional material and fabrication costs, please keep spreading the word to friends and family, and on your social media channels!!

In gratitude,
Nicki and the Flight Crew

We're making progress!

Dear Friends,

Wohoo, we crossed the fundraising two thirds mark!! I'm so grateful to all of you for the support 'Taking Flight' is getting!

Here is a little update on where we are in the building process, the wheel hubs Van Bebber Steel is fabricating for us turned out absolutely beautiful, a work of art in itself... The wings and tail are tacked together, and we are working on the internal frame of the bird's skeleton right now, so we can proceed to shaping her body, head and legs while Van Bebber is rolling the wheels and constructing the base frame.
The biggest challenge at the moment is getting the lighting design finalized and some additional help to implement the plan as our amazing lighting consultant has a work overload for the next couple of months, which means we need to recruit some additional help and expertise of lighting programmers and installers. If you know of anyone who might be interested in lighting up 'Taking Flight' please direct them our way. We of course also need to keep pushing to reach the fundraising goal, so please keep spreading the word.

Thank you all so much for your continued support!!
xx,
Nicki and the Flight Crew

An update from the North Bay Makers!

Hi there,

Here is what is happening at 180 Studios, our 'Taking Flight' build site. We have been busy cutting, welding, tacking, grinding, bending, etc. Both wings are now tacked together, and the tail is in works. I took advantage of Memorial Day sales, to get the tools we need to create the body of lady bird. We are also in the middle of planning / logistics on getting Ms Lady Bird on her wheel perch up to BRC...

I'm so excited, we reached almost two thirds of our fundraising goal!! Thank you so much for all the generous contributions that have been coming in, your perks will be on their way to you by end of July. :) Please help us complete the last third by contributing or sharing this campaign with your friends, so we can fully shift our focus to creating this beautiful installation. :)

Build day #2!

The frame work for the first wing is up, and we passed the 50% mark of our fundraising goal!! I’m so thankful to all of you who have become a part of the “Taking Flight” project. If you are local, come stop by to say hi or help us build :). We can use lots of extra hands. Next build days will be this Wednesday, Sunday and Monday.
